In 1985, Prof. Dr. Under the chairmanship of Mustafa Türker, Prof. Dr. Cihat Borbakan, Prof. Dr. Åžakir Akça, Assoc. Dr. Asriye Mocan, Assoc. Dr. Selahattin Or, Assoc. Dr. Samimi Demiralp, Assoc. Dr. Our association, which started its working life as an academic organization under the name of "Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Diseases and Surgery (STOMATOLOGY) Association" with 13 founding members consisting of Orhan Güven, has continued its activities with a total of 100 members, with the participation of 87 members operating in our branch of science, following its establishment. The first general assembly of our association was held on 21.6.1986. Our association emblem, which we still use, was accepted on 16.03.1987. After the completion of its establishment phase, our association has carried out intensive studies on its subject both nationally and internationally. By organizing congresses and symposiums, it has paved the way for national and international figures to meet and participate in scientific and social activities. In the first years of its establishment, before organizing international congresses, the association pioneered the panels organized by Gazi, Hacettepe and Ankara Universities, since its headquarters was in Ankara. Our association organized 21 international congresses and 9 national symposiums in the following years.

In addition, the association organized a total of 12 scientific symposiums, two in Izmir, three in Ankara, and two in Istanbul, Akçakoca, Sivas, Isparta, Erzurum and Adana.
In 1994, during the General Assembly activities, the name of the association was changed by making the necessary legal regulations and bylaw changes in line with the decision to change the name of the association to "Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Association" in line with the scientific trend in the world in the 20th century. Over the years, the number of members of the association has gradually increased. In 1995, it was decided to publish the Scientific Journal of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Association. It was decided to use the word "TURK" in the name of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Association, headquartered in Ankara, on 06.08.1998, by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey, in accordance with Article 65 of Law No. 2908. Turkish Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Association has gradually strengthened its relations with international associations and organizations. He has been accepted as a member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMFS) and the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeons (ECMFS). Today, our association has 757 members, thanks to the devoted efforts of the association managements to go further than the previous one, like a relay race.
Our association has created a website in line with the requirements of the age and is available to our members at www.taoms.org.tr and www.tomcd.org.tr . In our country, we are in constant exchange of views with associations and organizations related to dentistry, and efforts are being made to reach a consensus regarding expertise in our branch in accordance with European Union norms.
